Audiovisual Preservation Officer

Canberra, Australia

Moving to National Film and Sound Archive to continue my career whilst undertaking post graduate studies in Audio Visual Archiving, I worked on various key projects, including the Arc digital cinema project – a 250-seat screening venue with customised archival-quality projection equipment –making vital contributions to the creation of the establishment and encoding platform for the opening of the cinema. I was involved in the Australian Screen Online Digitisation project – a database of information and samples of Australian films and television programs – where I designed workflows for digitisation and transcoding, and developed my skills and knowledge in media recovery and digital preservation of old/obsolete formats. I also received training in the handling, identification and digitising of culturally sensitive material, particularly related to Indigenous Australians.

Audio Production/News/Presentation

Canberra, Australia

I started my career in media production at Prime Television, gaining valuable industry experience and knowledge in a number of roles over a 7 year period. As well as successfully acting as an On-Air Presentation Supervisor for live broadcasts on over 20 channels, I was involved in audio production, operation and field recording for many programs, including the nightly news service with live crosses, and regular Prime special programs. During my time at Prime Television, I utilised my recording skills in a variety of digital and analogue formats, including 1 inch C, U-matic, DVCPro, Betacam SP and Digibeta, creating high quality recordings and running smooth playback. I played a key role in the organisation’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, and from standard definition to HD, helping to ensure a smooth transition as a member of the supervisory team. I also coordinated scheduling of nationally broadcast programs, including breaking news feeds and critical weather warning alerts.
