UT Sound is geared towards conducting empirical research in the areas of speech production, perception, and processing in a variety of languages. We design and proctor a variety of tests meant to evaluate speech processing abilities of individuals with hearing difficulties, such as older adults and cochlear implant users, non-native talkers and listeners, and talkers and listeners of various language backgrounds. With these target groups, we want to understand how variation in intelligibility can impact different levels of spoken language processing and different tasks that the listener is performing during spoken language comprehension. As an RA, I was responsible for recruiting test subjects, proctoring tests, inputting and analyzing hard data, and presenting our research at research fairs.

Camp Texas is UT's extended student orientation for first year and transfer students coming to the University of Texas at Austin. My responsibilities included structuring and running a 1-day retreat in January for 200+ transfer students, and a 3-day retreat in August for 1200+ incoming first year students to the University of Texas at Austin. I had to design engaging, interactive activities and learning experiences for large groups, as well as engage in team management and large project design, including creating and keep deadlines, making detailed itineraries, and organizing physical materials for large groups. Additionally, this position included structuring and facilitating weekly 1.5-hour leadership, mentorship, and educational trainings for a counselor team of 120 student leaders

The CLL focuses its research primarily on language development in children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, though our research has often led us to testing older children, and even adults. At this lab, we work to understand how children learn to listen, speak, and understand language, and how those functions can translate into adulthood. As an RA, I was responsible for proctoring tests to subjects, constructing and editing tests for differing variables, hand-coding eye-tracking studies, inputting and analyzing hard data, designing research posters, and presenting our research at several career fairs. I also aided our PI and PhD. consultants in designing and proof-reading developing tests for comprehensiveness and fluidity of word flow.

Alternative Breaks is an organization primarily intended to introduce students to various aspects of intersectional topics through a spring break spent contributing to community service in communities around the nation. My responsibilities included planning and facilitating an intensive, week-long service-based trip focused on intersectional education, as well as coordinating service events with local non-profits and maintaining relations with community partners in the months prior to the trip. Additionally, I structured and led weekly 2-hour educational trainings with focus on history, service, and intersectional social studies to our group of participants, and coordinated fundraising activities and community service events for large groups of people.
