Austen was the Regional Transport Leader for the Middle East at Woods Bagot Dubai where he was responsible for seeking and bidding on transport opportunities throughout the region and beyond. His role also extended to Project Lead and overall Project Manager. In a Project Lead role Austen led large multidisciplinary teams across multiple time zones. In his Project Management role, Austen was responsible for managing project cash flow and resources. He has also been responsible for leading and preparing fee proposals across multiple sectors. Globally Austen was part of both Woods Bagot’s Design Delivery and Design Technology Groups. The focus of these groups is to ensure consistent high standards in the design and delivery of projects and to improve their delivery through best practices to optimise the performance, efficiency of projects. Austen also undertakes technical reviews of other projects commenting on code compliance and buildability

Austen was Senior Transport Architect for Farrells in London and Hong Kong. Austen’s role was primarily focused on providing input to the transport elements of masterplanning projects as well as undertaking station planning studies. His role also involved business development through the development of relationships with new and existing clients. Austen developed systems to evaluate the feasibility of opportunities and ensure the appropriate procedures where put in place in the development of fee proposals. He also led and produced multiple fee proposals.

Austen was an Associate for HOK in London. In his role, he acted as Project Architect for a number of projects which saw him lead multidisciplinary teams and produced project basis of design reports. He also undertook adhoc technical reviews of other projects and supported bid submissions through the production of project methodology statements.

In his role at Pascall+Watson Austen was architect and Project Lead. As Architect he worked as part of the wider team responsible for his own package or subproject. As Project Lead he led various multidisciplinary teams, reporting to the project Associate or Director. The majority of Austen’s roles were site based in which he played an active role in the project’s delivery and resolution of site-related issues. As Project Lead Austen was also responsible for the production of fee proposals and sought out potential leads and opportunities.
