About Austin Dahl

I've been a software developer and manager with 25 years experience in the software business, 17 of them in leadership positions. I've worked in a wide variety of application areas and environments. I've had plenty of hands on technical experience and feel comfortable both as a leader and a individual contributor. I've had very successful experiences growing teams and building great products. As one of Tableau’s first 25 employees, I helped build and grow the company, doubling its size seven times to over 3200 employees worldwide, which included the period leading to and past Tableau’s successful IPO in May 2013. I contributed to 8 major and 13 minor releases to the product suite, which includes a desktop application, an on-premise server product, a cloud SaaS product and a mobile experience. The product is used by millions of people daily, has won dozens of awards, has been recognized by Garnter as a leader in Business Intelligence and Analytics for the past 5 years straight, and is widely recognized and loved for its ease of use.I have hired well over 100 developers and initiated the campus recruiting and internship programs. I helped roll out agile and scrum to a development organization of hundreds of engineers. I drove the process to select an off-shore vendor, which successfully delivered software that connects Tableau to web data services for the past few years.Over the years I developed in C++ and Java, and smaller projects in JavaScript, C#, Objective-C, and Ruby on Rails. Experience with STL, SQL, OLAP, MDX, I18N and L10N, and Qt.
