Undergraduate Research member of Paul Schedl Lab- Conduct independent laboratory bench and literature research to author senior thesis- Utilized Drosophila to uncover cellular mechanisms underlying zygotic genome activation in early embryonic development- Gained proficiency in Drosophila genetics and husbandry, early embryo formaldehyde fixation, immunofluorescent staining, confocal microscopy, and ImageJ- Presented and defended research to leading department senior scientists

The Community House program works with families to support underrepresented youth through innovative programming that focuses on providing tools for academic success and enhancing social-emotional literacy through 16 youth and family tutor-mentor development projects.

-Accompanied local doctors daily in seeing patients and on weekly clinical outreaches to local village communities -Researched, organized, and initiated a new “Research and Innovation Club” that serves to sustainably train local students on effective research practices and methods to implement innovation within their communities-Performed data collection and analyses to assess the success of current KIHEFO community programs, identify significant areas of need in the Kigezi region, and augment the annual progress report submitted to USAIDKIHEFO pursues a holistic and participatory bottom-up approach to community development. Using a model that prioritizes education and empowerment, individual people and village groups are given the necessary care, resources, and tools to become healthy, productive community members.

Clinical Center, Critical Care Medicine Department, Jason Elinoff lab- Assisted senior scientist with lab research on inflammatory signaling in human pulmonary artery cells- Became familiar with techniques such as cell culture, cell quantification (NucleoCounter), SDS-PAGE, western blot, immunofluorescent staining, and ELISA- Shadowed physician in applying findings to cardiovascular disease treatment- Presented research findings to senior field professionals at a poster day event - Participated in journal club on senescent cells with senior scientist and other interns
