Lecturer for CEE 107A/207A/ EarthSys 103: Understanding Energy (Fall, Spr, Sum): a blockbuster energy course for any and all students that want to increase their energy literacy! Energy is the number one contributor to climate change, and this course dives broadly into all aspects of energy -- fossil fuels, renewables, energy efficiency, electricity, the grid, transportation, and more. The class includes 80-min lectures, discussion sections, weekly homeworks, midterm and final exam, and on-campus and off-campus field trips to different energy centers around California.Lecturer for CEE 107R/207R: Extreme Energy Efficiency (Win): a unique 6-day experiential course that takes place at the Rocky Mountain Institute's Innovation Center in Basalt, Colorado. Selected students travel to Colorado to learn from world-renowned energy guru Amory Lovins about energy efficiency and integrative design with different themes for each day: buildings, transportation, industry, and implementation and implications, including renewable energy synergy and integration. Students participate in design charrettes, implementing the principles of integrative design and systems-level thinking to solve challenging questions posed each day.

Served as the program manager for a new student engagement program, Explore Energy, at Stanford's Precourt Institute for Energy. The overall goal of the program is to aggregate "everything energy" on campus for students -- events, clubs, majors, internships, research positions, research faculty, and more -- so they may know what resources are available to them. The program culminated in a website that makes the information accessible for current and prospective students.

Boulder, Colorado

Schneider Fellow in the Islands Energy Program team at the Rocky Mountain Institute, a think-and-do tank that provides market-based engineering solutions for various stakeholders to secure a decarbonized energy future. Identified over 23,000 critical facilities across Puerto Rico that provide essential services during and after a disaster. Generated hourly load profiles for 36 different types of critical facilities by modeling their critical loads. Sized solar PV and lithium-ion battery storage microgrid systems for each critical facility type using HOMER microgrid modeling software. Estimated the total MW and MWh of solar and storage, respectively, needed to power critical loads at critical facilities across the islands of Puerto Rico to increase energy resilience and autonomy.

Co-led a team of student researchers exploring 100% wind, water, solar energy feasibility plans for 53 cities in North America. Tasks included coordinating research tasks among team members, updating data in the master spreadsheet, and leading team meetings.Please view our published article in the Sustainable Cities and Society journal in the link attached.

Pasadena, Ca

Performed research with Senior Water Scientist James Famiglietti in the Terrestrial Hydrology group. Used remote sensing data from the GRACE satellite in combination with in situ reservoir measurements, modeled soil moisture data, and modeled snow water equivalent data to calculate groundwater storage variations during the 2011-15 drought and 2016-17 recovery period. Although too soon to tell if the groundwater recovered, research showed a steep decline in groundwater storage during the 2011-15 drought, emphasizing the need for a groundwater management framework across California.

Served as a mentor and resource for the other Academy coaches. Facilitated team building activities and cooperation among coaches. Mentored freshmen engineering students and design projects to help educate freshmen on how to think like an engineer. Aided students in understanding fundamental engineering concepts taught in the Freshmen Academy course.

• Developed criteria air pollutant (CAP) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories using CalEEMod for four corrective measure project alternatives to assist with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) screening process. Calculated emission factors for on-road vehicles using EMFAC2014 to create diesel particulate matter emission inventories for a freeway project.• Assisted a six-member project team in testing and estimating volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from a bakery. Results were used to develop a compliance strategy to meet the requirements of SCAQMD Rule 442.• Prepared hazardous waste reportable quantities under toxic release inventory (Form R) reporting for an asphalt manufacturing facility pursuant to Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986.• Presented a technical talk about California Air Resources Board’s Short-Lived Climate Pollutant regulation.

Whittier, California

• Created a rollout plan for the Districts to utilize solar energy at their facilities to reduce energy costs and increase renewable energy use. Plan includes extensive evaluation of facility power demand, viable solar panel locations, economic analysis, and site map generation with GIS software.• Updated the District website with various capital improvement projects, summarizing energy and cost savings to date.• Data analysis tracking and identifying trends in the flaring of biogas in order to offset natural gas purchases/ uses with food waste biogas.

Teaching Assistant for the USC iPodia course “the Principles and Practices of Global Innovation." Coordinated course logistics, communication with the participating universities from five countries, and helped students understand difficult concepts in the course. Planned and chaperoned the end-of-semester trip to Beijing, China.
