I have lived in Haringey, North London for over 20 years, working in a secondary school in Haringey for over 10 years. Tragically, in 2011 one of my pupils was murdered by a man diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. This had a devastating effect on how I perceived my life and my purpose. I evaluated my impact as well as my role as a community member, questioning my motives and priorities, which changed as a direct result of this traumatic experience. I went through a transitional milestone, becoming no longer self-absorbed. As a result of my rites of passage, I created a for purpose driven alternative education service, in order for us to be the change that we want.
