Provided drug discovery & development consultation for two novel families of aldose reductase inhibitors in pre-clinical studies.

At Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) I worked as a medicinal chemist in the Organic Chemistry Collaborative Center (OCCC) headed by Dr. Donald Landry where we performed drug discovery and provided medicinal chemistry support across a wide range of therapeutic areas for internal projects at CUMC, as well as for outside collaborators in both industry & academia. One of my projects at the OCCC involved the discovery and development of novel aldose reductase inhibitors for use as therapeutic agents against diabetic complications, specifically diabetic cardiomyopathy. I was the lead chemist on this project and discovered two novel families of aldose reductase inhibitors that were licensed by Applied Therapeutics Inc. for use in their inaugural projects. My efforts included synthetic & medicinal chemistry, process chemistry method development, patent protection and IP generation, and meeting with potential investors for licensing.
