Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of all wastewater and associated treatment processes and develops and recommends policies, procedures and methods to optimize overall plant performance. Provides leadership and supervision while managing numerous experiments and studies to support engineering projects, capacity evaluations and multimillion-dollar capital improvement projects to achieve permit compliance. This position works under general direction.

Analyzes and reports on the effectiveness and efficiency of all wastewater and associated treatment processes. Designs, manages, conducts, and evaluates process studies and assists in the evaluation of new products used in water renewal (wastewater treatment) processes. Provides oversight, training, and supervision of employees performing process evaluations.

Performs lead, advanced skilled work in the operation, control, monitoring, adjusting, and maintenance of advanced water renewal (wastewater treatment) facilities and other public works utilities as needed. Holds operational responsibility for ensuring procedures are performed safely and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws. Work is performed under general oversight and requires independent judgment and initiative.

Performs skilled work involved in the operation, control, monitoring, adjusting and maintenance of advanced (water renewal) wastewater treatment facilities and other public works utilities as needed. Holds operational responsibility for ensuring all procedures are performed safely and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws.

As a microbial source tracking intern, I collected and analyzed environmental water samples for parameters including pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, total phosphorus, and ammonia. I also performed advanced microbiological assays to determine the source of bacterial contamination.

As a treatment plant operations intern, I observed and assisted in the daily operation and maintenance of the plant under the supervision of licensed wastewater treatment operators. I participated in grab and composite sample collection, laboratory water and solids analysis (SSV, SVI, ATC, RSC, OUR, SOUR, pH, and residual chlorine), monitoring and adjusting plant processes using SCADA, and maintaining a dry polymer system, UV disinfection system, and turbine blowers.
