I built my first Learning Management System (LMS) in 1988 and now have over 30 years’ experience working with LMS in the Oil & Gas, Retail, Finance and other industries. I've worked primarily in compliance-based LMS, where a substantial amount of training is driven by regulation or certification needs. Over the past several years I've worked on competency-based learning systems, where training to a specific proficiency level is the goal. During this period I designed the competency modules for the RISC_Inc Virtual Training Assistant system, an internet based Learning Ecosystem Platform. In 2019, I designed the Spaced Learning Platform for RISC_Inc.I've been keenly interested in the Experience API (Tin Can) protocol, and RISC was an early adopter of this technology. Since 2012 I've served on the ADL cmi5 committee. cmi5 is the next generation of ADL's SCORM specification. It is based on xAPI and promises exciting new capabilities for LMS to training content communication. I frequently present on both xAPI and cmi5 topics at various training conferences, including mLearnCon, DevLearn, xAPI Camp and ATD.
