Various research groups from the University of Melbourne and abroad require high resolution mass spectrometry of novel compounds. This is done using a Thermo Finnigan LTQ-FTICR mass spectrometer. I serviced and maintained the instrument in optimum working condition for research purposes in addition to the analytical service provided.

I have been a laboratory demonstrator for first, second and third year practical chemistry. Tasks include the preparation of material that covers theoretical background, practical aspects/demonstrations of procedures and equipment and safety issues.

To follow on from my Masters research I continue to probe the fundamental properties and experimental conditions that govern the formation of coinage metal nanoclusters where electrospray ionization is the primary analytical method.

This role involved the tuition of first year chemistry student at Newman Theological College enrolled at the University of Melbourne. I prepared the classes to reinforce the material covered in lectures. There would be approximately ten students per class.
