At TxDOT, I was given the opportunity to expand my learning capabilities by working with professional engineers, project managers, and inspectors throughout the steps in current projects ongoing here in Laredo. The Standard Specifications for Construction and Maintenance of Highways, Streets, and Bridges (2014) was one of the largest tools TxDOT has to assure that quality is where it should be for the safety of the community. I explored some fundamentals of bridge foundations, concrete and material testing, and was able to oversee bridge and cap pours in the first half of my internship. The second half consisted of density testing, inspecting, and communication importance between the department and the contractor.
