My name is Rafael Baez Ramirez, I am a Computer Science student at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I was raised in El Paso, TX for most of my life, but have always been interested in my family's traditions from Juarez. Living here in El Paso has given my a nice mix of both cultures.Currently I am working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant under Dr. Kumar in his Advanced Modeling and Simulations Research Group. The group mainly focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics, but has expanded to try and apply machine learning algorithms to some of these problems. My role in the group focuses on applying these models. I have helped with automating an algorithm to determine the fractal dimension of images, manipulated large data sets for such models, and am helping develop neural networks to predict flow characteristics.I plan to graduate in Spring of 2023 with Computer Science as my Major and Mathematics as my Minor.
