I am a student employee at the Cal Poly Crops Unit. I am mainly tasked as a student crew leader for Cal Poly's 80 acres of organic and conventional farmland. My responsibilities include crop planting, plant management, pest control, irrigation events, and crop harvests.

I was able to gain practical knowledge of the agricultural irrigation industry by working closely with the Waterford Irrigation sales and engineering teams throughout my time as an intern. I was in charge of transporting food and catering equipment to venues. I often assisted in preparing and cooking food for catering events. Once ready, I would serve buffet style meals and restock food as quantity decreased. I was also responsible for washing, rinsing, and sanitizing dishes to transport back to the facility. This position helped me to be a quick thinker and learner. I learned a lot about customer service and food service through this position.

This job consisted of me assisting my family on our almond orchard ranches. I would perform various farming jobs throughout the year including irrigating, checking drip hoses, spraying weeds, cleaning and operating farm equipment. More specifically, during the harvest season, jobs include sweeping and hand raking almond rows. I learned a lot of hard work and responsibility from this job as well as many conventional farming practices and skills.

I assisted the manager with shift operations by handling orders and completing transactions. I washed, rinsed, and sanitized dishes to meet health and safety codes to ensure cleanliness within the restaurant. It was important for me to be good at multi-tasking by making sandwiches and restocking food as quantity decreased. I learned a lot about customer service while working at Togo's as well as being a responsible and punctual part of a team.
