Verde Consulting provides project management services, research and consultation on historical issues, document search and retrieval, and expert analysis. I offer expertise on Native American issues, environmental contamination in Superfund sites, and water policy. On Native American issues, I specialize in Federal trust and title claims, land and water rights, and Federal acknowledgment and recognition. I also possess extensive experience in research, interpretation, and analysis of complex water policy issues, including those involving the Army Corps of Engineers. I have also worked with local and state agencies, NGOs and volunteer organizations to establish regional structures on natural resource and sustainability issues.

I oversee all club efforts to maintain hiking trails in Rock Creek Park as a recognized partner of the National Park Service and represent Potomac Appalachian Trail Club in all activities relating to Rock Creek Park. I recruit, train and supervise volunteers; develop and implement our annual work plans; manage relationships with the National Park Service, the District of Columbia, and other park partners; apply for and fulfill grants; conduct community outreach; and advocate for the club and for expanded access in and around the Park. Appointed by the County Board to review and provide advice on a broad range of environmental and energy conservation issues, including stormwater mitigation and green infrastructure. Particular expertise and interest in water policy.

As an appointed member of the Chesapeake Bay Ordinance Review Committee, I review applications from property owners to build within the Resource Protection Area (RPA) and determine whether to approve or deny the application. Moreover, I perform site inspections to assess potential impact of the proposed project on the RPA, including identifying the proximity of the property to the RPA, comparing existing structures with proposed improvements, and evaluating potential impact of the project on county resources. I also work with property owners on incorporating green infrastructure into proposed projects and encourage the use of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) to reduce effects on the RPA and to further county watershed protection goals.

I conducted historical and archival research for Federal agencies, law firms and companies on topics including natural resource management, Federal Indian policy, and the historical contribution to contamination at Superfund sites.

I spent two years as the Program Manager at Rock Creek Conservancy, which is the only organization solely dedicated to Rock Creek and its parks. At Rock Creek Conservancy, I managed the Backyard Habitat program, the English Ivy Initiative, several grants, ecological restoration, community outreach and advocacy, and other critical environmental projects. I successfully managed Rock Creek Conservancy's work in the RiverSmart Washington program, a major project designed to combine cost effective landscaping on private and public property with innovative streetscaping methods to help reduce stormwater pollution in Rock Creek. I also developed and directed programs aimed at building partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, institutions, community groups, and residents to work together to preserve Rock Creek for present and future generations.

During my years as a Research Associate at Morgan Angel, I worked with several Native American tribal entities in helping them document their petitions for Federal Acknowledgment through the U.S. Department of the Interior's administrative process. For example, I was part of a research team that enabled the Shinnecock Indian Nation of New York to successfully gain Federal Acknowledgment as a recognized tribe. In addition, I provided historical research and analysis to other tribal entities, law firms, and Federal agencies on issues related to Native American rights, resources, assets, and territorial boundaries. I also worked extensively with law firms and agencies on projects related to environmental matters such as Superfund litigation, navigable waterways, and public works projects. For example, I led research investigating the origins and development of the Army Corps of Engineers' public works projects in New Orleans in support of litigation after Hurricane Katrina.

Directed all aspects of a polling station during elections to ensure polls were run in an honest, accurate and well-organized manner.

Maintained database, including GPS mapping, of all flora and fauna in the park. Handled management and control of invasive species by hand, mechanical and chemical means. Protected endangered plants within the park by transplanting native plants, such as Virginia Mallow, from the National Park Service greenhouse into the wild and tracked success.

Researched, developed and presented interpretive talks to park visitors of all ages on the first and second battles of Manassas in the American Civil War. Collected fees.
