I was in charge of managing the technical activities for the development of 400 MW project-financed wind farms in East Africa, including consultant management, establishment of the procurement strategy (wrapped turnkey EPC/turbine supply + BoP), contact with the wind industry and technical advice to contract negotiations with the turbine supplier.Beyond my educational technical background, I developed during my five years at Aldwych a broad range of skills in the environmental, legal and financial areas of wind farm projects. Based in Kenya and Tanzania since 2009, I had key responsibilities in leading or supporting the in-country activities, including project promotion and explanation to local, regional and national Governmental authorities and energy regulatory authority, environmental permitting, tariff application and generation licencing, land acquisition, PPA negotiation with the national utility.

I proposed some strategic recommendations to support the development of small wind energy in Kenya. This proposal was submitted to the Energy Committee of the National Economic and Social Council of Kenya.A key task was the identification of the barriers hindering the development of the market for small wind energy systems in Kenya and the definition of the conditions for its sustainable growth.

I assessed wind resource characteristics and suitability for several large scale wind farm projects in Europe and beyond, i.e. carrying out wind data analysis, long term correlation, production estimate and wind load parameters.This included site visits and customer contact. I gained project experience with Spain, Greece, Bosnia, Turkey, Iran, Brazil.

Kijito Windpower Ltd is a leading Kenyan wind energy company manufacturing the Kijito windpumps since 1979.This consulting work aimed at strengthening the capacities of Kijito Windpower Ltd by assessing the performance of their windpumping technology and supporting the company's move towards supplying small wind power generation systems.I advised the implementation of the pilot wind-based off-grid electrification project at Esilanke School.

The Vergnet Group is a large scale wind turbine manufacturer. Its technology is specifically designed for the challenges of logistics and transport in remote areas.I analysed wind energy resource and wind park prospects in Kenya (both grid connected and off-grid options) and organised Vergnet’s visit in Kenya in September 2007, including meetings with local project developers, the Ministry of Energy, and the National utilities KenGen and KPLC.
