Barb Baker is President and CEO of Elder Living Construction and Transitions Remodeling where she oversees the strategic direction of this dynamic new company. Founded in 2011 with a focus on helping meet the needs of an aging population committed to remaining “safe and independent” in their homes the business has grown into a remodeling company know for their design and quality workmanship. They opened a Universal Design Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan in 2012. Barb formed a focus group of leaders from the medical and in-home care communities to ensure the Design Center would include products and design with an eye toward function. The collaborative input helped develop a showroom that is unique and exciting. They have been nationally recognized as universal design experts with articles in Qualified Remodeler Magazine (June 2013) and Kitchen and Bath News (July 2014) which showcased their work, people and their showroom. On a personal level, Barb gained her compassionate perspective from the real life experience of providing in-home care and a safe environment for her husband and mother who both were dependent on wheel chairs. She is active with the Disability Network of Oakland and Macomb where Elder Living Construction is the lead company of the Business Leadership Network which promotes hiring the disabled. She is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, a designation used by the National Home Builders Association to recognize people who are specially trained to design and build barrier free environments. She also serves as the current President of Professional Women in Building with the Home Builders Association of Southeast Michigan. Her background of working for AT&T in key leadership positions with national responsibilities makes her a business leader with a well rounded background to help grow a small business to meet the needs of a marketplace where 10,000 people a day turn 65.
