I have been a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, College of Letters & Science, Board of Visitors since 2009. From 1997 - 2012, I was a member of the UW-Madison's Board of Visitors for the Pathways to Excellence Programs and chaired the committee for the last 10 years.

Previously a member of the Boards of two Los Angeles based non-profits, A Place Called Home and the Los Angeles Junior Chamber Charity Foundation. Barbara joined the Board of A Place Called Home in February 2013. APCH is a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where underserved youth are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts, and well-being and are also inspired to make a meaningful difference in their community and the world. Barbara joined the Charity Foundation Board of Trustees in October 2012. The Charity Foundation supports community building efforts led by young professionals including its Riordan Leadership Institute, which she completed in June 2012. Barbara retired from Toyota July 2011 as Vice President, Corporate Responsibility, in the company’s Legal and Corporate Responsibility group. Barbara led the initiative to pull together several existing compliance groups as well as create new compliance functions to establish the Corporate Responsibility group to help ensure the company’s compliance in a range of activities. The Corporate Responsibility team included Internal Audit and Ethics; Environmental, Health and Safety; Privacy; Enterprise Risk Management; and Compliance. Barbara joined Toyota’s Legal Department in 1990 and held a number of positions within the group. Immediately prior to becoming a Vice President in January 2008, she was an Assistant General Counsel with responsibility for a number of compliance issues as well as managing the State Government Affairs group. Barbara moved to the Human Resources Department for two years in the late 1990s to launch the company’s diversity initiative as the company’s Corporate Manager, Diversity. From approximately 2000 – 2003 Barbara was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, an organization which Toyota has long supported.

Barbara was a senior associate in this full service Century City law firm, starting in the litigation group and later moving to the corporate practice where she worked primarily on mergers and acquisitions.

Barbara joined the Cleveland Regional Office of the FTC as a staff attorney. In 1980 Barbara did a three month rotation at headquarters as an Attorney Advisor to Commissioner Patricia Bailey. After returning to Cleveland she was promoted to Assistant Regional Director in 1981 and to Acting Regional Director in 1982. The Cleveland Office handled both consumer protection and antitrust matters with a focus on consumer protection issues arising out of the auto industry.
