Barbara Baker has served in executive leadership and board of director roles for more than 25 years. Her most recent experience was Executive Vice President of Human Resources/Cultural Enhancement for Umpqua Holdings Corporation. She oversaw all culture, training and human resource functions as the company grew from 350 employees and 1 billion in assets to 5,000 employees and 22 billion in assets. She has been an active member of the Bank’s Merger and Acquisition Steering Committee and served in a leadership position in 13 successful mergers during her employment with Umpqua. Barbara’s efforts created consistency and momentum in Umpqua’s Human Resource strategy and culture in a fast growth environment, which was recognized nationally. During her employment, Umpqua Bank was on Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list eight times.Barbara was nominated and recognized as one of the nation’s six top human resource executives in “HR Executives” magazine in 2008. She also received the Orchid Award in 2010, given by the Portland Business Journal for Achievement for Women in Business. In 2011, Umpqua Bank’s Human Resources division was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as the Top Company for their HR Leadership Award. In October 2012, Barbara was awarded Outstanding Alumnus by George Fox University for demonstrating exceptional personal achievement in business, and in 2017 they selected her as one of the 125 individuals who have greatly influenced the University since its founding in 1891.
