Dr. Barbara Calhoun has a Ph.D. in bioengineering focusing on auditory neuroscience. She is the recipient of several awards, including the National Research Service Award and the University of California Regents’ fellowship. Dr. Calhoun received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University and a Ph.D. from the Graduate Program in Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco. She had additional training in auditory neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Calhoun is currently at Scientific Learning Corporation where she is a Senior Research Scientist. Dr. Calhoun has published various articles within the field of neuroscience and holds several US patents that form the basis of the Scientific Learning software. She currently leads Scientific Learning’s efforts on evidence-based research studies including randomized control group studies examining the Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant software. The efforts have resulted in more than 200 published reports from various school districts on the impact of the products on cognitive and reading performance.
