LAB FACILITATOR: Facilitated required lab sessions for undergraduate students taking math classes enrolled in the University of Colorado’s McNeill Academic Program. The Student Academic Services Center is a multi-cultural advocacy and academic program designed to help students perform successfully at the University level. As an instructor assistant, I provided additional opportunity for students to review concepts covered during lecture through mentoring individuals and giving them strategies for problem solving and approaches for successful math learning during the twice weekly 1.5 hour structured sessions. I worked with students from diverse multi-cultural backgrounds and with military veterans returning to the academic environment. Classes that I assisted with were Introduction to College Math, Calculus- Bound Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus Bridge, Calculus and Calculus II.• Monitored students' performance, recorded relevant data to assess progress – Lab grade• Attended biyearly teaching strategy workshops to develop and strengthen pedagogical approaches in mathematics• Collaborated with instructor on a weekly basic to discuss pedagogical approaches to promote physical, mental, and social development MATH TUTOR: As a math tutor, I planned and taught individual review sessions for struggling students with coursework. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: Independently developed and implemented college level curriculum to serve the pedagogical mathematical needs of the university Pre-Collegiate Development Program. The program supports students from lower income families, minorities and first generation college attendees to prepare them for the rigorous requirements of university study. In order to bring innovative and adaptive teaching methods to develop course content, I studied developments and technological advances in the mathematical field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional workshops. I collaborated with colleagues to address teaching and research issues that had potential impact to curricula.CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION: Prepared and delivered lectures to high school students (max class size of 25 students) on various topics in intermediate algebra and advanced algebra. Many of the students did not have English as their primary language. The course objectives were to increase the students understanding of math, provide an acclimation to college level requirements, and motivate them to continue with studies in mathematics. STUDENT ASSESSMENT: Assessed and evaluated student performance on a weekly basis. Administered and graded assigned homework, quizzes and examinations. I created a student website through Google Drive to allow students to self-review assigned homework solutions and examination problems. This website facilitated the student learning objective of acclimating them into university systems and responsibility for their own success. Based upon student assessment, I adapted lesson strategies to facilitate improved student learning during classroom lectures. Maintained student attendance records, grades, and other administrative records required by the university.
