Barbara M. Hoffmann is the President of the American Association of Australasian Literary Studies. Her research focuses on Irish and Australian literature, including writings by and about Irish convicts transported to Australia in the 19th century. She writes as well on contemporary Australian authors and recently guest edited a special section of the journal Antipodes on Greek-Australian author Christos Tsiolkas (https://digitalcommons.wayne.edu/antipodes/vol35/iss1/). She is also an avid James Joyce fan, presenting regularly at Joyce conferences and contributing chapters to books on Joyce. In the classroom, she teaches Indigenous and Aboriginal writing and postcolonial theory; queer identity and culture (including a class on the history and culture of drag); oceanic studies; and composition theory.
