I am a fifty's kid. Kids born in the fifties typically hate self promotion, but we are well-mannered, drank out of the hose after a hot bike ride, lived to tell about it and remember the Cuban Missile Crisis like it was yesterday. I practised the piano and succeeded, I was okay at it. Learned to play the cello badly but now have great appreciation for those who play exceptionally well. What I did well, was raise a three little boys who grew up to be great young men, taught music to hundreds of young people, who are now grown and call friends. There is a certain time in life when opportunities come your way and if you are smart you take a leap and bravely decide to live a new kind of professional life. Twelve years ago an opportunity to write a musical for a group of young woman for a fundraiser. Out came the manuscript, chord charts and the writing of new music to inspire women was produced into a live musical "If The Shoe Fits". The show was a hit and raised 38,000.00 for the fundraiser. Occasional Notes Productions was born that night. My music partner and friend Laurie Parente quickly attracted some of the most brilliant musicians, singers, dancers and actors to work with us creating dynamic music for events in Calgary. The best part? I feel like a kid in the band room at High School everyday. Musicians are like that. In the midst of this time, my brother Bob, wrote some fun songs for my grandchildren to sing and dance to. The song "Duck Call" lead to the album ZooStreet for kids and another new company began. What were we doing?ZooStreet Productions is an interactive children's musical promoting animal education, self awareness, kindness and compassion through music and stories, with a mission to educate, motivate, inspire and empower children. We are now entering the puppet world and bringing the ZooStreet critters to the screen to reach a larger young audience. Self promotion done.. My motto? Be brave, work hard, keep going and don't stop!
