In today's information-driven market, the right content, programmed in the right place, can be a key driver of sales and marketing engagement. As a former web/digital strategist for Microsoft U.S. enterprise, industry, and public sector marketing, I am skilled at developing and aligning digital and social assets around a set of strategic, customer-focused stories to improve digital storytelling, drive customer engagement, and acquire leads. In my 30-plus years in technology communications, I have written, edited, and managed award-winning trade books, papers, and product documentation for a variety of audiences; developed training resources for Microsoft engineering teams and public sector employees and customers; and established the Microsoft US editorial standards program, including US English language standards for terminology, editorial style, content schema, and attribution taxonomy. In addition, I have significant experience driving requirements for content-related internal tools and developing and implementing content models for database-driven content management, including both content and metadata schemas and taxonomies. I am also an expert in developing content for global audiences and author of the global content section of the Microsoft Manual of Style (Microsoft Press) and the new (internal) Microsoft style guide. I am a former lead editor for the Microsoft Manual of Style and served on the Microsoft Editorial Board from 1996 to 2013, authoring, updating, and informing guidance for corporate writers and editors as well as the software industry. In 2015, I rewrote the Microsoft Writing Style Guide, working with a cross-company team of experts, to support developing content that is mostly digital in a workforce where everyone writes.
