Throughout her career, Barbara has led and built teams and infused business strategy into government, non-profit and for-profit organizations to strengthen their capacity to execute on the core mission. With 40 years of public, private and nonprofit experience, Ms. Stewart provides significant perspective and strategic thinking to the organizations she leads or serves. Barbara was elected to the Board of Directors of ZeroFox (Nasdaq: ZFOX) in 2023, and served as Chair of the Board's Nominating & Governance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee until the company was acquired by Haveli Investments in May, 2024. ZeroFox is an external cybersecurity company on a mission to create a safer digital world. Barbara previously served as the Presidentially-appointed, Senate confirmed CEO of AmeriCorps, the federal agency for service and volunteerism. During her tenure as CEO, Barbara led the agency through a period of transition and transformation, addressing many of the agency’s long-standing operational challenges. Barbara created an environment at AmeriCorps that encouraged continual improvement, creativity, innovation and inclusiveness. She also rebranded the agency (previously known as the Corporation for National & Community Service) to raise awareness of service opportunities. Prior to her federal service, Barbara held leadership roles in the private sector, including more than a decade as Senior Vice President at JPMorgan Chase, and in Illinois state government. Barbara has extensive bipartisan experience working with elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. In 2012, Barbara and her husband Peter Bowe co-founded the Bowe-Stewart Foundation with a focus on closing the economic opportunity gap and strengthening civic education and civic engagement. The Foundation provides strategic guidance and financial support to organizations that share their goals of creating opportunity and strengthening civil society.Barbara earned a B.A. and M.B.A from Northwestern University, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Knox College. She has served on numerous non-profit Boards, and helped found a charter school in Chicago. She currently serves on the National Advisory Boards of Service Year Alliance and The Policy Circle, as a member of the University of Chicago Graham School Advisory Council and as a Trustee of the American Battlefield Trust and the Civic Federation of Chicago. She is a 1991 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
