As a member of the Transformative Language Arts Network, I am excited to share the value of self-reflective narrative writing with small groups of workshop attendees. Together, we excavate old memories and examine them in a new light--often changing an interior dialogue that has plagued us in the past. ▪ Created and facilitated nine six- or eight-week memoir writing workshops with a total of 38 participants.▪ Created website: https://memories2memoir.com.▪ Designed and edited two collections of workshop writings: Stories That Connect Us and Writing Our Secrets.

• Currently working on research and articles for the Center for Media & Democracy, helping bring to light the dangerous influence of right-wing oligarchs on American democracy.• Published a myriad of newspaper opinion pieces and magazine and web articles, ranging from architectural criticism in the Portland Press Herald and public policy op-ed pieces in the Bangor Daily News and elsewhere, to sailing articles in Points East and Cruising World Magazine to blog pieces at Best Possible Life.• Devised high school level curricula and exams for online courses in Leadership Skills, Civics, and U.S. Government.• Received “Discovery Award” from PEN–New England for young adult novel "Burn Each Page" in March of 2002.• Created several college-level Instructor’s Manuals across literature, reading instruction, and linguistics.• Wrote teacher and student materials for 1st- and 3rd-grade literature-based reading program, three short stories for 5th-grade “leveled-reading” program and student and teacher books for 7th- and 8th-grade spelling program.• Contributed “hi-lo” articles for anthologies and assembled and edited read-aloud anthology to accompany 3rd-grade social studies program. Authored a 40-page historical novel for social studies paperback series.• Developed an arts-integrated multidisciplinary year-long curricula for grades 2, 3, and 5.• Published "Life in Colonial America," National Geographic Society (2000) and in Chameleon Readers, edited by Dr. Allyssa McCabe (author of Chapter 9, “Narrative Styles in Written Stories” as well as the Instructor's Manual), McGraw-Hill (1996).

▪ Worked with executive committee, candidates, and campaign staff to create successful county campaign strategy.▪ Planned and managed advertising program. Wrote and handled production on nine direct mail pieces. Collaborated on online spot and programmatic advertising. Created print ads. ▪ Organized and produced events engaging hundreds of participants. These ranged from seven Saturday morning “Coffee with a Candidate” gatherings, to seven Monday night “Egghead Evenings” with local policy experts, to four “Democracy Brewing” gatherings at local establishments, to an October 20th GOTV rally with food trucks and live bands.▪ Wrote or edited numerous press releases in the local papers. Worked with volunteers to develop LTE writing skills. Contributed to social media communications.▪ Helped with massive GOTV effort. Devised, administered, and tabulated 150 surveys to GOTV volunteers to better understand and improve volunteer experience in future elections.

• Partnered with the board of directors to develop the strategic vision for new nonprofit dedicated to promoting knowledge of accomplishments of the nation’s first female Cabinet member and secretary of labor and carrying on her mission of social justice and economic security.• Wrote opinion pieces and developed collateral materials and online strategy for web, email, and social media. • Managed press relations and served as spokesperson with major coverage in national press, including The New York Times Online and National Public Radio. • Oversaw creation and publication of book: "A Promise to All Generations: Stories & Essays About Social Security and Frances Perkins." (Frances Perkins Center, 2011)• Established alliances with Strengthen Social Security Coalition, Mount Holyoke College, and Columbia University's Baker Library, and helped to develop a mailing list of more than 2,000 supporters, garnering over $175,000 via direct mail, events, and online solicitations. • Orchestrated educational/policy conferences and events in Washington DC; Belfast, Maine; New York City; and Newcastle, Maine.• Wrote grant proposals and managed grants from Maine Humanities Commission, Ford Foundation (via the National Academy of Social Insurance), and Davis Family Foundation.• Collaborated with an attorney to complete successful I.R.S. 501(c)3 application.

• Managed Common Cause programs promoting accurate, accessible, and accountable election reform. • Partnered with coalitions to publish reports on election issues such as: "Voting in 2006: Have We Solved the Problems of 2004?" with The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund and The Century Foundation; and "Malfunction and Malfeasance: A Report on the Electronic Voting Machine Debacle" with Verified Voting.org. • Participated in numerous panels and was quoted regarding election reform issues in various media outlets, including The New York Times, National Public Radio, Portland Press Herald, and TomPaine.com. • Served on committees of the Election Verification Network with over 50 affiliates and the National Network for Election Reform with 30+ partners, both nonpartisan election reform groups.

• Collaborated with, trained, and managed directors of Common Cause state offices east of the Mississippi River to achieve program and fundraising goals. • Co-organized three-day national training session of state directors, which included outside speakers, interactive learning opportunities, and team-building exercises.

• Helped develop the concept and edit AppleSeeds, a general interest magazine for 7-to-10-year-olds. • Received Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media—Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Magazines, AppleSeeds Magazine in 1999 (award shared with co-editor).

• Coordinated and supervised teams of four to six editors responsible for development through publication of student and teacher social studies and mathematics materials (core and ancillary) for kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grade. • Helped to conceptualize and develop elementary social studies materials for prototypes and 1st, 2nd, and 6th grades as a Consultant from 1993–1994.
