Barry has worked in the film and television industry since 1985, initially as a film-maker and production manager. He also worked as a freelance writer and script editor for feature, documentary and short films, and was a script assessor for the South Australian Film Corporation, Australian Film Commission and NSWFTO. He worked at the South Australian Film Corporation as Manager, Industry Programs from 1995 to 1998, where he was responsible for management of all of SAFC's development, production and screen culture programs. From 1999 to 2013 he worked at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as Commissioning Editor, Executive Producer and Head of Production for Australia Network. Barry also has experience as an educator. He ran screen study and writing programs at the University of South Australia and Flinders University, and devised and taught a screenwriting course for Adelaide TAFE. Currently he is a freelance writer, script editor, producer and project manager, is a climate reality leader with the Climate Reality Program headed by Al Gore, and a producer of the environmental radio program 'Barometer' for Radio Adelaide. He wrote produced and directed 'Legacy' in 2019, a short film looking at the results of not taking action on climate change, from a future point of view. This film has been screened at many international and national film festivals.
