Working as 2nd engineer & Mechanic, most recently with Stena Drilling and Maersk Drilling on board various offshore projects, including DP2 & DP3 semi-submersible vessels and jackups, it was my duty to monitor all vessel machinery, tank levels, alarms and power management system via the on-board Kongsberg K-chief 600 & 700 VMS ensuring there is sufficient power for vessel requirements and drilling operations.It was also my duty to maintain all vessel mechanical equipment to a high standard including automation, hydraulic & pneumatic systems and all ancillary machinery inside and outside the engine department and drill floor and ensure all breakdown and planned preventative maintenance is up to date on the vessels electronic planned maintenance system, as well as assisting in the safe management of the technical department.

Working on board various SSV's but most permanently on the Safe Boreas, the first of 4 new build dynamically positioned class 3 harsh environment Semi-Submersible Vessels, the Third Engineer assists in the safe and efficient management of the Technical Department and compliance with the planned and corrective maintenance system on board the Vessel. The position included but was not restricted to both breakdown and preventative maintenance on diesel engines, air compressors, pumps, HVAC and refrigeration systems, boilers, heat exchangers (plate & tube stack), sewage treatment plants, fresh water generators (RO plants), lube & diesel oil centrifugal purifiers, and all other ancillary machinery in the engine department as well as being proficient in the use of Kongsberg Kchief and Ksafe operating systems.Main engines: 6x Wartsila 16V26D 5.5MW (Diesel electric propulsion, Rolls Royce azimuth thrusters)

As logistical support to the Royal Navy, my roles were vast, including weapons maintainer, plumber and systems engineering motorman (MMSE). However my primary role was to assist the Duty Engineer on engine room watches and keep a detailed log of all the various plant and running machinery levels, temperatures and pressures, as well as performing planned and breakdown maintenance on the ships equipment both inside and outside of the engine room department.
