Dr Bart Grasmeijer has more than 25 years’ experience in scientific research and consultancy in the area of hydrodynamics, sediment transport processes and small and large-scale morphology. Bart Grasmeijer graduated as a civil engineer (MSc) from Delft University of Technology in 1996 and obtained his Ph.D. from Utrecht University in 2002, after which he worked for 5 years as an assistant professor at the Department of Physical Geography. He participated in several Dutch and EU funded field research programmes. He has taught MSc courses in fluid mechanics, mathematics and mechanics. Bart joined Arcadis in 2007 and spent 10 years with the consultancy working on sediment transport and morphological studies in multi-disciplinary project teams for the purpose of port planning, shoreline management, coastal evolution, tidal inlet dynamics, port and harbour maintenance, sand extraction, flood protection and building with nature. Bart joined Deltares in 2017 as a senior advisor coastal morphology in the department of applied morphodynamics (AMO). Bart is guest researcher and invited lecturer at Utrecht University. He has published many peer-reviewed journal articles on sediment transport and morphology and has supervised the research of many MSc students on these subjects.At Deltares Bart contributes to national and international projects with his expertise in currents, waves, sediment transport, bedforms, small- and large-scale morphology and numerical modelling. Bart translates the latest scientific knowledge into practical solutions. Bart is presently head of the Applied Morphodynamics (AMO) department of Deltares.Specialties: Flow, sediment transport and morphological modeling.
