Teaching is my second career. After spending 12 years in sales and marketing, I went back to school in Spring 2018 to complete my Bachelors in History with a minor in Political Science. I then followed this up with a teaching credential in Social Science, and a Masters in History. From Spring 2018 to Fall 2021, I devoted myself to my studies and completed roughly 190 semester units with an undergraduate GPA of 3.87, a teaching credential GPA of 3.96 and a graduate GPA of 3.5.In my graduate program at ASU from January 2020 to December 2021, my studies largely focused around European History and European nations' interactions on the global stage. Key courses and concepts include The Thirty Years War, Witchcraft and Heresy in Medieval Catholic Europe, Medieval Medicine, Ancient History, Early Law, Catholic Spain's Imperial Influences, and the European Imperial Era in Africa.My student teaching was completed and Greenfield Middle School in Cajon California in Spring 2021 where I taught 6th and 8th grade history. This was an entirely virtual experience and the classes did change several times through the experience. It ended with an entirely 8th grade U.S. History class load. I was fortunate enough to work with a master teacher that really gave me the reigns to learn and the feedback to improve. In August 2021, I started teaching at Mt. Carmel High School as a long-term substitute social science teacher. The district then offered me a part-time position at the start of the Spring. I have truly enjoyed my teaching experience so far and the students have made it an incredible year. I had the opportunity to run onto the Football field with one of my Seniors, serve as an escort to a student's Homecoming Court announcement, throw the first pitch for the last baseball home game, and I was even nominated as an honor teacher for the Senior classes graduation ceremony for being one of their most influential teachers! All of this has secured my belief that I am finally doing exactly what I was always meant to do, and I can't wait to see where this journey through teaching takes me next!
