IDOC is Innovation and Digital Operations Centre. Site Champion leading the development of several programmes of work to realise tangible benefit for Telfer. Engaging directly the Telfer GM, site stakeholders as well as TCS onshore and offshore resources.

Led a Business Transformational initiative designed at producing large operational benefits both within the Queensland Shell QGC asset and within Shell globally.Developed a Transformational Strategy identifying significant benefits relating to QGC’s power consumption as well as a strong multi-tier Data Analytics capability. The identified cost reduction was $200-400M annually or 20% of QGC’s total operating costs.The Data Analytics capability includes Discovery Data (Big Data), Predictive Analytics (Operational Analytics) and Digital Twin (top-down near real-time modelling). An Artificial Intelligence POC was identified, but did not commence.The Data Analytics work within QGC was identified globally within Shell and QGC become a global Data Analytics “Lighthouse”.

Accountable for the Production Data Solution consisting of nearly one million live data feeds. Data quality interventions are made in real-time and the data solution was managed to strict data quality and data availability metrics.The re-engineering of the data solution was managed using a business risk based prioritisation approach.Aligned the production data solution with the upstream operations business. This outcome was a key success factor in allowing the QGC business to aggressively start-up and operate safely and efficiently in record time. Reduced total cost of ownership and set a new “high-water mark” for large production data solutions within Shell globally.

Strategic reviewed the QGC data solution and technical architecture. Analysed the strengths, weaknesses and issues between the production data solution and the needs of the QGC business. Established the Data Management function within QGC.

Woolworths is a major supporter of Foodbank, the largest distributor of food, meals and goods to charities within Australia. The GM of Supermarkets suggested that both Daniel Kochanowicz and myself spend time within Foodbank to provide support for the organisation.Devised a new technical business solution architecture for the Foodbank business that was initially implemented within Foodbank NSW and later nationally.Personally thanked by Dame Marie Bashir, Governor of NSW at Government House.

Responsible for the following infrastructure solutions within Woolworths: corporate, stores, merchandising, data analytics, HR, payroll, employee communications, finance, consumer facing websites, facility management, enterprise backup and recovery, disaster recovery, mainframe and secure data integration with external trading partners and vendors. Included the Microsoft desktop and server solution.

Woolworths purchased half of the supermarkets within New Zealand (152 stores and associated supply chain) as part of their first large international acquisition.Managed the technical transformation ($48M) of these stores into the Woolworths business, including implementation of a new communications network within New Zealand, significant store refit work and a staged migration of each store. Each store was only permitted to close for four hours and each store received a complete technical change out. Included gaining approval for the Woolworths EFT pin pads to be utilised within the New Zealand banking network. Included the appropriate disposal of technical components according to legal and environmental requirements. A significant success for Woolworths and was favourably received by the share market.

Developed and implemented a HR Master Data Strategy which met business needs and avoided the need to adopt an expensive ERP based solution. Engaged with board members through the redevelopment of the board reporting solution. I had full visibility of Woolworths Board Reports.

Reformed an under-performing development team responsible for the financial applications and interfaces for the Woolworths warehousing and store solutions, vendor financial solutions and the daily bank reconciliation of all customer non-cash transactions. Cleared an impossible backlog of work in 14 months using a prioritised release management approach.

Engaged with business and IT functions to establish a common project portfolio and planning review function. Established a PMO and delivered a project management methodology.Leading role in the analysis and change delivery within WOW in preparation for Y2K and GST.

Transmission Pipeline Crack Detection System: Innovative design and delivery lead for the development of a robotic industrial system to detect cracks and defects within high pressure natural gas pipelines.Managed the Australia team who were later joined by an Oklahoma based American team.The solution was validated by a consortium of international gas transmission industry representatives to be the only system in the world with the ability to detect SCC cracking in natural gas pipelines. This was a major international achievement.The solution required significant R&D effort particularly in the development of the detection transducers. The solution utilised advanced signal processing and artificial intelligence techniques to detect the cracks in the industrial conditions.The detection transducers utilised EMAT technology for which I was the sole custodian of design expertise within Australia. The EMAT technology was secretly developed by Rockwell in the 1960's and had been used by NASA to scan the boosters units on their space shuttles.The system was proven in harsh Arizona desert conditions over an extended period.Vibration Monitoring System: Adapted the pipeline inspection technology to deliver an industrial vibration monitoring system.The system used an innovative approach for monitoring vital rotating industrial machinery such as large gearboxes to provide early diagnosis of defects. Australian Defence Industries (ADI) reviewed this system for possible inclusion in the Mine Hunter ships being built for the Royal Australian Navy. Mining Dragline Inspection System: Delivered a computerised industrial product to examine the load bearing rails on large mining draglines. The system was used internationally on 68% of draglines in Australia, the USA and South Africa. The solution was patented.The products I developed were highly profitable and provided a key strategic advantage for the Company in the international field of Asset Management.

Identification and resolution of production bottlenecks within the automated Rodding Shop of the newly opened Tomago Aluminium smelter. The rodding shop was a continuous loop of 13 automated stations that never met design capacity. Some shifts completed the accepted number of anodes per shift early and would then play cards in the crib room. I studied the manual interventions made by these shifts and provided this detail to the production engineers who would refine the production PLC code. This caused the automated performance to improve until the rodding shop was able to exceed smelter demand for refurbished anodes.Casual role during the last year of my university study. My university final year project was to apply artificial intelligence to a visual anode block identification solution within Tomago Aluminium (patient application made).
