Developing a new wealth metrics data platform to power the next generation of marketing analytics for the retail financial industry.

Co-founded IXI in the mid-1990s to develop a ground-breaking cooperative data platform for the U.S. financial industry by gathering ZIP+4-coded data about customer assets and aggregating the data to calculate the total financial wealth of each of 10 million residential neighborhoods and track each data provider's share.Served as CEO and President for ten years (until 2004), during which period the consortium was expanded to nearly 100 financial institutions, covering almost $10 trillion of consumer financial assets and the company was established as a unique provider of high-value information products for financial marketers. Following its acquisition in 2009, IXI is now part of Equifax.

Led Claritas through its transformation from a small consulting company into the leading U.S. supplier of geodemographic market segmentation and targeting solutions for consumer marketers. Until the company's acquisition in the late '80s by VNU (now Nielsen), Mr. Barton was particularly active in developing and deploying the PRIZM neighborhood lifestyle classification system (which popularized the practice of ZIP Code marketing) and various wealth estimation models used in the retail financial industry.

Held various positions, principally engaged in turn-around projects and technological innovation related to the company's market measurement and tracking of the global health care business. Personal focus was, initially, on improving the gathering and integration of data from doctors and pharmacies, later on associated analytics applications for pharmaceutical companies, and lastly on the integration of the businesses the company acquired to form its U.S. operations.

Participated, in multiple capacities, in preparing this family-owned survey research company for its eventual acquisition, focusing especially on the rationalization of IT systems and the development of new revenue sources by application of emerging analytics technology to the consumer diary panel data the company collected for packaged goods manufacturers.
