Biography prof. ir. Bas Molenaarprofessor of architectural design & health careBas Molenaar is part-time professor in Health Care Design. He received his Ph.D degree in Architecture from Eindhoven University of Technology in 1978 with professor W Eijkelenboom as his supervisor. The same year he joined EGM architects, his professors Office and is now member of the Board and one of the leading Architects. While teaching on the Academy for Architecture in Rotterdam, he designed a number of innovating Hospitals in the Netherlands. Utrecht University Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital and the OLVG in the center of Amsterdam successfully confirmed his skills as Health Care Architect.This very moment he is working on the new Erasmus MC, the biggest and most challenging health care project ever in the Netherlands.Erasmus University Medical Centre Rotterdam (Erasmus MC) has started a program for rebuilding its 1000-bed hospital, on its present site, in the inner-city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Together with the city town planners and the Erasmus MC hospital planning team we design strategies to be able to create high-quality individual space in this huge building complex. precise placed atria provide light, space and the possibility to create green oases in the dense city structure.Durable flexibility concepts, the effects on interactive climate control (space, light, sound, temperature, colors and materialization) on well being, and the impact of the environment on building and its users are the main targets for research.Specialties: healthcare architecture
