Basil is the Managing Director of Vemco Consulting Ltd, a consultancy specialising in the delivery of specialist engineering services; including, fire engineering, highways and transport infrastructure. His company provides services to local government and private land developers, including fire strategies and fire modelling, contract management, transport studies, strategy development and specialist resource support.Basil has a great deal of experience improving the built environment working in partnership with private, public and third sector organisations, including the development of a £200 million 10 year PPP for improving the public realm. He has significant experience in change management.Basil has worked in local government since 1990 and, between 2006 and 2012, was employed at assistant director level where he worked closely with elected members and local people to deliver various forms of transport infrastructure.Basil has acquired leading national reputation for his work in the field of public transport. He designed and implemented three phases of the Leeds Guided Bus project during his time with Leeds City Council; a scheme singled out as good practice in the Government’s 1998 Transport White Paper.Working in partnership with colleagues from 8 local authorities in north-west London, he delivered the London Bus Priority Network and oversaw the development of parking policy in the London Borough of Brent.
