Bas Raijmakers is currently creative director and owner of STBY London and Amsterdam. He completed his PhD in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art in 2007. During his MA studies in cultural studies at the University of Amsterdam, he focussed on how people use media, from magazines to tv. Early 1990s he co-founded internet company ACS-i that was later acquired by Lost Boys (which later became LBi). With his company he developed methods to research how people use interactive media. His PhD research focuses on how documentary film can be used for design research. The new research method Design Documentaries he developed helps multidisciplinary teams to explore the rich fabric of everyday life as a source of information and inspiration at the start of design processes. He has regularly published and spoken about his work since 1993. Bas does his research in industry, government, non-profit and academia. See www.stby.eu for recent projects and clients.
