Working for DeGusipe I am like the helping hand for everyone. I am mainly an administrative assistant to the other administrators who are here. I have also played a role of a funeral directors assistant in helping funeral directors with their families they have to meet. Additionally, I have also helped in our care center when needed as an assistant to the Crematory Operators, Removal Technicians and Embalmers. I have used programs such as Microsoft office, EDRS, TDA Smart Director, Tribute Center by Frazer, Funeral One, Legacy Touch, Docusign, MIP messenger, Newpaper for the Orlando Sentinel, ASD Answering Services, Google Drive and Google Docs.I open and close our Maitland location on the weekends as well as release Death Certificates, Cremated Remains, and Personal Effects to our families. Also, I play a roll as a receptionist answering our phones to assist our families. I recently also started Mortuary school to obtain my Funeral Director License and later my embalmer's License. I hope to start my internship around May 2021.
Administrative Assistant
I started doing funeral attendant work part-time which includes working funeral visitations and services. There funeral attendant position is very similar to other funeral homes except the only addition is that the Dignity memorial providers would do celebration of life (Col) services. Col services would have tables and chairs instead of rows of chairs/pews. The tables would have table clothes as well as runners and/or overlays of the requested favorite color for the family. There would also be a special designed table for the decadent for the family of all the special things and qualities of their life. We also hosted catering from a third-party company named cocktails that we would use to do receptions for the families. From there. I was the full-time administrative assistant for the location Family Funeral Care. I was helping out the office manager who was on medical leave. I started helping this location on November 1st of 2019. The list of duties I completed each day were opening and closing the facility, greeting families who come into the funeral home, assisting families in any way shape or form possible, taking payments and printing contract paperwork with the program HMIS, taking first calls and entering them into our system called Care Point and then dispatching those calls to a list of funeral directors to see who is available, doing the Printing material with the program Making Ever Lasking Memories (MEM), taking any pre need inquires and dispatching them to our service counselors, creating death certificates with EDRS, ordering supplies through Staples and Messenger, releasing death certificates, filling urns with supervision of a funeral director, checking identification of any decedents or cremated remains and logging them into our books as well as signing the chain of custody and their personal effects, and so much more.

At the start of my hire I worked a couple of services at our Howell Branch location in Winter Park. After my training period I was then transferred. Most of my work has been conducted at their branch in Sandford. Their Sandford location is Gramkow Funeral Home & Crematory. I opened and closed this facility and majority of the time I ran the location by myself.

Spring of 2018, I volunteered at Alavon Direct Cremation Services in Orange City, Florida. I was there for about a month starting in March and ending sometime in April. I was the opener and closer of the facility (I was by myself most days), I was the receptionist and funeral director’s assistant. My director was Jeremy Estes (Whom I had previously worked with at Lohman Funeral Homes.) Mr. Estes would give me a list of obligations over the phone or in person each morning and I was sure to have each task completed. My tasks included the same things I would complete in a funeral home but Alavon is only cremation and no burial.

As for a summary of what my job consisted; I travel between their many locations for Lohman Funeral homes and Cardwell, Baggett and Summers Funeral Home & Crematory. I cleaned, made sure that everything is properly set and ready for a services to the family’s expectations guided by the funeral director, prepared refreshments for services, attend the services, help the families in need, I had experience in opening and closing the facility as well as other small tasks. As for my Funeral Directors Assistant position, I was located at our central location, Lohman Funeral Homes Daytona. I would greet our families who enter the building and accommodate them to their needs, I answered our telephones, I personally created memorial packages for each of our families based on the information my Funeral Director has given me, I used many programs (Front Runner, Make It Personal Messenger, Tukios, Batesville, and Microsoft Offices), I would take down first calls which consisted of making sure our removal team receives all the information and I would put the new calls that would come in from all our locations into their log books. (I started learning EDRS but never got to finish my training for it.) As for being a Lohman’s Community Outreach Volunteer, many of my tasks were the same as my position as a Funeral Attendant, they're just applied to being outdoors verses being inside the funeral home or at a church for a service.
