Starting my career as a Clothing Buyer was not what I envisioned when I enrolled at Miami University as a Political Science major. Upon graduation, I enrolled in a Buyer Training program at a major retailer and progressed at record speed to becoming a Buyer at 23 years old. I was determined to prove those who fast-tracked me that their support was well founded and succeeded early. My ten year Buying career was capped off with my last year generating six million dollars in profitable sales.After taking time off to have my kids, I had to be creative in finding my next career. Fortunately, I knew someone who had just started her own event company. I reached out to see if she was hiring and her exact words were "Can you collect money?" I said yes and my next career was started. Istarted helping with the finances, and soon was learning the event business. Starting with private events, I soon discovered my passion was Corporate and sports events and that became my niche. I excelled at vendor relations, logistics and profitability, with the ability to execute 5-6 large events at the same time. I continued to assist with the financial management of the company as well.After 20 years with that firm, I opened my own company and continued to do Corporate and sports events. One of the clients I was able to take with me was the Cleveland Clinic. In 2019, the Cleveland Clinic approached me to become a Consultant for them as they were going to be celebrating their Centennial in 2021 and needed event help for the many events being planned for that celebration.Covid had other plans for me as I accepted the contract, but the events were cancelled or converted to Virtual. I had to pivot and carve out a new role for me. The Clinic was moving to Oracle so I asked if I could learn it for Marketing | Communications. In addition to handling all purchase orders, and invoices, I slowly added other Administrative functions that no one was handling. I became the "go to" for questions as I was always able to find the answers. I managed several calendars of leaders with intense schedules and learned to adjust those in a fast paced environment. I added many other administrative facets to this job I created and all were received very well by the Team. In addition, I worked closely with the Chief of Staff for the CEO's office on several events for Leadership.As of January, 2024 I will be seeking a new role. My ideal, part-time, position will be one that allows me to use the myriad of business skills that I have acquired over many successful years of work.
