System R&D was created to enable product development and reference architectures for specific industries with the high speed required to match the changing market. Working here has helped me refine my position as the lead and subject matter expert in my business unit and the company. One of my objectives in the group was to help standardize and increase reuse in the different projects in all business units. To do this, I was one of the founding members of SDSC Steering, which was responsible for creating guidelines on how to use DevOps, build and test practices, and general software engineering best practices. One of the most significant accomplishments of the SDSC was creating a companywide accepted LabVIEW style guideline. My focus in the group has been working with EV testing, both long-term traditional testing, and HIL. I am considered a subject matter expert in LabVIEW, embedded systems, software testing, and Azure DevOps pipelines.

As part of the Systems Engineering organization, I provided technical consulting to our customers in the fields of embedded control, automation, and distributed systems. My goal was to mitigate technical risks for our customers by advising on hardware selection and developing proofs of concept, prototypes, reusable libraries, and system architectures. I was one of the first engineers to engage in large complex opportunities. One of these opportunities was the most significant engagement by NI at that time and consisted of high-precision testers for a consumer electronics company. I started with a developer's role but finished the tech lead and leading developer. After this, I started working on developing frameworks for embedded systems. I was one of the three main architects and developers of DCAF (Distributed control and automation framework). Besides working on DCAF, I was an integral member of the development and maintenance of our open-source tools https://github.com/NISystemsEngineering/ Besides the open-source frameworks, I also lead the embedded components for a custom application framework for a large oil and gas customer. When I was not engaging with a key customer in sales opportunities, I helped develop internal and external trainings for Real-time systems. I presented multiple times at NI Week and LabVIEW user groups.

I managed all the application engineers in Mexico, consisting of more than 12 engineers distributed in two offices and field engineers. A strong emphasis on recruiting and training pushed the overall customer satisfaction over 4.5 for the department, making it one of the top-performing application groups worldwide. Implemented the triangle of excellence, a program to measure and motivate AEs in their regular activities. Besides people management activities, I worked as a system engineer in critical projects for key customers with multiple onsite deployments.

Managed a group of 5 engineers in the local office and had to keep up with applications engineers’ responsibilities. During this time, I taught more than 27 classes mainly focused on LabVIEW Advanced and Intermediate for strategic customers. Besides teaching the classes, I still was the application engineer with most services forums post and marketing events for the year. Because of my application engineer and team leader performances, I got an Excellence Award at the Global application engineer conference.

Applications Engineers in Mexico provided customers with technical support and training to customers. They were also in charge of creating proof of concept and marketing demos. During my time as AE, I was the one with most service requests closed and most classes. The classes included most of the training classes available at the time: LabVIEW Basics I, LabVIEW Basics II, LabVIEW Intermediate I, LabVIEW Intermediate II, LabVIEW Advance, Tested, Diadem, Lookout, DAQ, Real-Time, FPGA, and Diadem.
