Dr Dimitrios Bechrakis received the Electrical Engineer diploma and the PhD degree on wind energy measurement from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 1997 and 2002, respectively. In 2002 he became a “Marie-Curie” Postdoctoral Fellow in the Sustainable Energy Research Group of University College Cork, Ireland to study the combination of hydrogen and wind energy systems. He has worked as a freelance engineer in the development and assessment of several wind farms worldwide. In 2005, he was employed as a specialised scientist in the Hellenic Transmission System Operator, which is now the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece. His major service still in IPTO is the planning of renewable energy plants integration to the transmission system being the Head of RES & Storage Systems' Interconnection Planning Section. He serves also as an expert evaluator and reviewer of international research projects on the fields of energy and engineering.
