I am the editor and producer for the Texas Newsroom’s statewide newscast unit. The Texas Newsroom is a collaboration between NPR, KUT in Austin, KERA in North Texas, Texas Public Radio in San Antonio, and Houston Public Media. In this role I am responsible for the production of statewide newscasts including:+ Managing, editing, and assigning stories to two newscasters to produce six live newscasts per day that air on 20+ public radio stations in Texas reaching 400,000+ listeners + Pitching, editing, writing, and fact-checking dozens of web stories since October 2021 that have gotten over 70,000 views + Conducting research and interviews as well as editing audio to produce 8-10 newscast stories daily+ Collaborating with editors, reporters, and producers to cover top stories for a statewide audience

Science Friday is a live, two-hour nationally distributed public radio program that covers scientific news and research each week. In this role I was responsible for producing segments for the show including: + Researching, pre-interviewing, and booking guests for Science Friday + Preparing research materials, questions, and scripts for host Ira Flatow + Fact-checking and writing articles for the Science Friday website + Writing Science Friday’s e-newsletter reaching 50,000+ subscribers + Planning, booking guests, and helping produce live events nationwide

Produce an average of 3 stories per week with a focus on features, but also including spot news. Work largely independently to develop sources, conduct research and interviews, edit audio, and write as well as voice scripts. Cover a range of topics including health, education, arts, and politics. Produce daily local arts events calendar. Write copy for and update station's website/Facebook page with local content. Additionally developed a new strategy for KWBU's Twitter account. Serve as local host of All Things Considered delivering informative and engaging breaks. (Also serve as the local fill-in host for Morning Edition.) Assist Station Manager with operation of station's automation system and content distribution systems, correcting technical issues, updating automation system, and being on-call two weekends per month.Supervise 2 interns each semester providing editorial guidance and in depth training in audio production.Help plan, craft messages for, and produce station's pledge drives.

Build formal volunteer program for Economic Empowerment Services, including defining volunteer opportunities and developing a standard orientation. Spearhead recruitment efforts and work with a number of stakeholders including donors, junior board members, and corporate sponsors as well as individuals. Marketing and Communications. Create promotional materials in accordance with branding standards. Create and maintain Economic Empowerment's first Facebook page. Manage digital video project to create additional content for Facebook page. Draft content for internal and external e-newsletters. Community Relations. Attend community meetings and events to develop relationships with organizations offering both similar and complimentary services to the Economic Empowerment program.Accounting. Assist Accounting Department with preparation for program audits, processing payroll, and filing.

Research. Research financial trends and barriers to employment for women and establish a publication database. Volunteer Recruitment. Develop a pool of culturally-competent volunteers to provide career development and financial literacy seminars for Economic Empowerment Services participants and community members. Meet with speakers in advance of sessions to introduce them to the organization and ensure that they understood both our mission and the needs of our clients. New Media. Created the YWCA's first podcast aired on Chicago Public Media's Vocalo.org 89.5 FM. The podcast highlighted the stories of and financial issues facing women in largely marginalized communities in Chicago. Relationship Development. Conduct outreach to non-profit organizations, businesses, and local government offices to increase clients' access to services such as free credit counseling, housing assistance, and other resources. Schedule meetings for Economic Empowerment Director with other organizations as well to increase the program's partnerships and visibility. Community Outreach. Increased Economic Empowerment's participation in community fairs and meetings. Recruited clients for the Economic Empowerment Institute, computer classes, and the TechGYRLS after-school program.

Recruit volunteers to assist with music reviews, increasing the available world music content in the station's library. Event planning. Assist in planning and staffing of radio station events on campus, including concerts and open houses.

Program Development. Work with Jewish and Palestinian youth leaders to design conflict resolution workshops for a five-day summer activism program, or the Summer Youth Campaign. Conflict resolutions workshops employed public art, drama, oral history, and music. Marketing. Contacted both local and international news outlets to publicize the Summer Youth Campaign. Succeeded in having it featured on Idealist.org's Blog. Additionally, co-wrote the organization's summer e-newsletter which was distributed to participants, donors, and other stakeholders. Administrative Assistance. Provided support for logistical aspects of the Summer Youth Campaign. This includes securing in-kind donations from restaurants, helping with event set-up and breakdown, and ensuring the safety of all participants.
