My research focus is on the application of engineering in speech and healthcare specifically using signal processing, machine learning, wearable sensors and technology to develop systems to improve the quality of our lives and assist healthcare providers. Specifically, my work has been in the areas of disordered speech detection, dementia detection from speech, disordered sleep monitoring and stress prediction and self-regulation. In teaching, I focus on using active learning approaches to promote deeper learning and maximize content retention. I am also a cofounder of Say66 (http://say66.com/), an automated speech therapy tool that integrates engaging games with AI based speech processing algorithms.
