Isabella Ortiz Email and Phone Number
I am a senior in the Public Health major with a minor in Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Florida. Throughout my academic journey, I have had the privilege of working as a research assistant at both the Equal Access Clinic and the SMILE Institute, where I currently participate in research in chronic pain management in older adults. I also interned at the Clear Vue Eye Laser Center as a medical assistant. In this role, I assisted with office tasks, learned about healthcare administration, prepped for surgeries, and performed clinical technological imaging tests, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a clinical setting. My passion for advocacy and community service drives my involvement with local organizations in Gainesville. In the past, I interned with Days for Girls, a non-profit focused on improving menstrual care and education worldwide, and with ControlFlu, an organization committed to providing free vaccines to public school children. Currently, I volunteer with the Shand's Hospital Volunteer Organization, Streetlights, offering support to young adults in palliative care. Within my university, I am the Lead of Crafting Care, a student-run organization centered on improving community and global health through crochet goods. We have created and donated hats and blankets for children in South Africa, handmade hearing aid holders for a deaf community in Yucatán, México, and headbands for Blossoming Butterfly, a women's cancer foundation in Gainesville. Looking ahead, I aspire to a career in the medical field, where I can leverage my skills in communication, research, medical terminology, and project planning and management to make a meaningful impact on public health.
