During my gap year I set up my own bespoke woodworking business, designing and producing commissioned pieces for customers, both nationally and internationally. Running my own business has provided me with many skill sets, including effective customer communication, thorough research and design using both CAD and hand drawn sketch-ups. Manufacture and production, especially when producing one-off pieces that required me to think laterally and adapt to customer needs. The business also taught me the importance of balancing requirements against cost effective materials, manufacture, and production.

During holidays I worked in at McDonald’s in the kitchen, this was a very fast paced role with constant deadlines to keep to across multiple stations at a time, coordination with colleagues is vital to ensure everything runs smoothly. The three biggest skills developed working there are Communication, Teamwork and Time management.

After applying at home bargains for the sales assistant role I was offered the Junior management role of Lead sales. Throughout this role I dealt primarily with cash handling, Managing tills, and merchandising, as well as a variety of other jobs that needed doing when they came up making this an important and flexible role. Being junior management gave me a lot of insight into how stores are run and I was often helping and doing the work of supervisors when we were low on staff or extremely busy.
