I was named a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Public Health to undertake research into the phenomenon of predatory journals in biomedical academia

I worked in the emergency department of the major trauma centre for south London. I gained experience in the management of major trauma, traumatic brain injury and paediatric trauma.

I undertook two research projects under Dr Claire Martin and Dr Pierluigi Constanzo at Royal Papworth Hospital in the Department of Cardiology.The first project related to the safety and efficacy of newly introduced temperature-controlled radio frequency ablation catheters in the pulmonary vein isolation treatment of atrial fibrillation. This work involved the collection of over 20 pre-procedural, intra-procedural and post-procedural parameters for over 600 patients. I undertook a two-term research placement in the lab of Dr Hannah Clarke, writing a grant proposal for primary neuroscience research in non-human primates. This proposal was for the investigation of a causal relationship between hyperactivity in the hippocampus and cardiovascular risk in schizophrenia via the modulation of glutamatergic neurotransmission in Brodmanns’s area 25 of the pre-frontal cortex resulting in changes in high-frequency heart rate variability.
