About Ben Craig

I'm passionate about people, creativity and doing better business for a better world. As Head of Partnerships and Business Development at Carbonfit I’m excited to work with organisations of all sizes to accelerate their journey to net zero. Our team of engineers have over 25 years experience in providing tailored solutions that will drive carbon reduction at pace from the word go. Data is great but let’s translate it into the right action for you at the right time with our digital carbon footprint management platform. We support you to identify, measure and reduce your direct emissions and engage your value chain to make collaboration and reporting on scope 1, 2 and 3 as effective and efficient as possible for all.As Commercial Director at International Synergies NI, I helped organisations become part of the green industrial revolution in Northern Ireland. Together we; - Reduced dependencies on virgin raw materials- Diverted waste away from landfill and into the circular economy - Found ways forward on the road to Net ZeroAs director at Big Blue Mountains I supported entrepreneurs, leaders and organisations who want to do better business, achieve Net Zero and create inspiring places to work.I founded a coffee company, Root & Branch Organic Ltd. in 2011 to bring my vision of better business to life. Along the way I learned many things the hard way, like how hard it is to make money and be socially environmentally responsible when you set out to try for the first time. The importance of efficiency, commitment, using creativity, passion and celebrating the small wins to maintain drive. In my early career I managed, designed and delivered, bespoke events & collaborative programmes with clients from the public, private & community sectors both locally & internationally as a consultant, facilitator & director at Different Tracks Global Ltd., focusing on sustainable change, leadership development & conflict management. I love adventure and as a qualified Yachtmaster and former 4th in the world Kayak surfer, I've spent more than a few hours in the sea. I’m highly skilled in the use of the outdoors as a learning environment and was the 1st recipient of the Rank Foundation Memorial Award for Leadership in Action working on pathways out of youth and gang violence. This experience serves as the inspiration for my commitment to a triple bottom line in business, valuing social, environmental and economic return on investment. Simply put, I believe in doing better business for a better world.

Root & Branch Coffee

www.rootandbranch.coffee'Strolling a bit farther south brings you to the excellent Root & Branch, a top-notch indie cafe that roasts its own impeccably sourced coffee in the back.' (Therese Aherne for The New York Times - 36 hours in Belfast 2019)Root & Branch was founded by Ben Craig in 2011 as a pop-up that featured at events across the island of Ireland such as, 'Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food & Wine'. The company gained momentum & established a permanent base in 2016 opening the doors to Belfast’s first specialty micro-roastery, determined to join the dots between community & culture, coffee chemistry & flavour. In 2017 the team grew with the opening of a second cafe in the historic Ormeau Baths. Continuing this trend of expansion, the original roastery was transformed into a full cafe, taking over the building next door in 2018. To accommodate increasing demand for their coffee they opened a third premises at Portview Trade Centre in East Belfast as a bespoke coffee roastery. Now with a staff of 12, the cafe is listed as one of the top 100 restaurants in Ireland, celebrating the best of seasonal local produce. Environmental sustainability is a key tenant of the business philosophy and has driven the company to innovate in coffee packaging, utilising beer cans to pack their coffee beans, which are now exported to coffee bars in Belfast, Dublin, London, Paris, L.A. & more.'At Root & Branch, vegetable cookery is a statement of the sublime, while dishes such as boxty with home-cured pork belly bacon and horseradish salsa verde are as good as it gets.'(Sunday Times - John & Sally McKenna - 100 best restauraunts in Ireland 2019)'Root & Branch offering surprising twists on heritage cuisine'(National Geographic - Kathleen.
