Purpose-driven servant leader/ school administrator, and builder of instructional capacity. Using the lead learner model, my hands-on approach improves teacher capacity in a collaborative, PLC, data-driven school culture. Building relationships and giving voice to all stakeholders in important decisions is made more efficient because of my ability to communicate in both English and Spanish and by my familiarity and identification with the diverse people and community of the Central Valley of California. For almost 3 decades (1997-current) I have served the Delano Joint Union High School District as teacher and cohort resource leader in ELD, Social Science, AVID, and English Language Arts; since 2004 as Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director. As Principal of Cesar E. Chavez High School, I led an amazing team of professionals, inspired by incredible students, parents, and staff, who earned multiple achievements culminating in 2 California Distinguished School awards and the sole representative high school from California recognized as a National Title 1 Distinguished School. Before this, I also taught 2 years in the Middle School setting at McFarland Middle School (1995-1997); before that I served students in Alternative Education as an instructional aide (1992-1994). During my three decades in education I have successfully applied educational law as well as board policies with respect to essential elements of school administration, staff and program evaluations, professional development, data analysis, curriculum development and alignment, instruction, and assessments. Not only have I served as a member of a WASC visiting committee, I have participated, facilitated, and hosted 3 successful, full 6 year term WASC Accreditation Reviews as principal and director, one as assistant principal, and another as Focus Chair. As a teacher, I was part of the team at Delano High School that collaborated to identify and align essential student learning outcomes to state standards and developed Common Formative Assessments called ACES that won a Golden Bell Award. A life-long resident of Central California and South Texas, with migrant worker background, I'm a product of local, public education, a graduate of McFarland High School, Bakersfield College, and Fresno Pacific University. I know, appreciate, and relate to the community that we serve and am purposed to continue providing the highest level of professional leadership.
