Director, Protective Structures
San Antonio, Texas Area
My career has focused on the design of new buildings to resist blast loads, evaluation of existing buildings for response to blast, design of building blast upgrades, explosion incident investigations, evaluation of extreme wind events, and the design of blast containment chambers. I have performed terrorist threat assessments for U.S. government and commercial properties; explosive safety siting and facility design for the Department of Defense; siting studies for commercial petroleum and chemical industry; and high explosive range testing and shock tube testing of structural targets.I have also led and actively participated in several explosion incident investigations during my professional career. I have performed forensic investigations following extreme wind events to determine the causes of building failures and damage to critical industrial equipment. My responsibilities have included surveying structural damage to determine the magnitude of explosion blast loads, directional indicator mapping to determine explosion sources, fire mapping, evidence collection and storage to maintain chain of custody, deconstruction planning, regulatory interface support, and root cause analysis. In addition, I have been responsible for leading investigation teams of engineers and scientists in the field and ensuring that the investigation activities are properly coordinated and performed safely.
