My teaching career began in 2014 when I assumed the role of resident tutor at a school in New Zealand. There, I taught a variety of subjects to students between the ages of 4 and 13. In many instances teaching students who were struggling to keep up with the syllabus. This was an invaluable experience and it was during this role that I developed a love for teaching and particularly finding ways to help motivate students to learn by creating an enjoyable classroom experience. Having struggled with motivation in school myself (mostly due to frustrations with the curriculum), I suddenly understood what it meant to learn when I began teaching students of my own. At school I had been caught up in the idea of ‘learning for the sake of learning’ and I could not see the bigger picture. It was the realisation that there is more to learning than reciting emotionless knowledge which inspired me to study for my degree which I graduated with first class honors. Once my work in New Zealand had concluded, I undertook my undergraduate studies in music at Newcastle University where I also assumed work as a professional freelance singer. Classical singing has always kept pride of place within my life; I was first involved in the world of music when I became a Cathedral chorister in Oxford. I continued to sing within a professional choral environment until university when I decided to pursue more solo work in operas and oratorios. I continue to sing professionally to this day.After university I spent some time seeking adventure and completed a number of physical and cultural challenges; the highlight being a solo and unsupported bike ride between London, UK and Athens, Greece. It was on this trip that I discovered the beautiful Strasbourg which summoned me henceforth!Currently, I am living and working in Strasbourg where I teach English as a foreign language to an array of students - to both professionals and beginners of differing ages - across the city. I am also employed by Strasbourg University and teach English to masters students in the school of architecture (ENSAS).During my free time I enjoy exploring on my bicycle, trail running, rock climbing and more recently creating illustrations for a children's book I have written!
