As Steptoe & Johnson PLLC’s Construction Law Team Leader, I counsel and represent construction, energy, real estate, and general industry companies in high-stakes litigation, construction negotiations, and other disputes, including defective design, faulty workmanship, and business interruption related claims (undue delay, insufficient workforce, and unforeseen circumstance). I am intimately involved in litigation impacting local, regional, and publicly traded oil and gas companies. I bring significant experience to handling professional responsibility matters, including defending and prosecuting lawyers, architects, and engineers in multimillion-dollar litigation. I have also defended mining companies before the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and construction companies before the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). My work philosophy centers on promoting a “team first” mentality and creating a collegial environment that works collaboratively to navigate complex issues, while remaining attentive to client needs and adaptable during times of uncertainty or change. I thrive on providing practical advice, leveraging good business judgment, and driving a strong corporate culture. Prior to becoming a lawyer, I gained first-hand experience in the construction industry as a journeyman ironworker, where I was involved in the construction of the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., as well as additions and renovations to a coal-burning power plant in Ohio. This experience paved the way for my deep knowledge and understanding of the impact of safety, both on the human capital side and the bottom line of my client’s business. I am licensed in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
