I cut my teeth on technology when I was 8 and had to figure out why the sound on our family PC stopped working after I deleted the driver. I was trying to make it faster, you see, and something with a name as funny as SoundBlaster couldn't have been necessary. After overcoming the initial wave of mild panic, I dove into learning how it all worked in my effort to fix it. It took hours, but I didn't stop until I got it working again. I'll always remember that wave of satisfaction from learning the system, identifying the problem, and implementing the solution. I've been chasing that high ever since.Years later, I discovered the power of effective communication when I was travelling in Africa and delivered a series of lectures for a cross-cultural audience. Creating the curriculum, developing the presentations, presenting them, and seeing my ideas take root in the audience woke me up to the value of authentic communication in conjunction with a good idea. It showed me that even the best idea can be hamstrung by poor communication. And it crystallized my passion for helping others excel through shared knowledge, whether they're an engineer, event coordinator, or c-suite executive.Fast forward to today, and I've had the privilege of managing IT operations for global non-profit and government offices, lecturing peers in deep dives on technical and historical topics, working with direct reports to implement new technologies, and coordinating the IT infrastructure for multi-million dollar building projects. I may not delete critical files in my quest for efficiency anymore, but that core curiosity and passion have only grown as I have. So what do I do now? I use technology, relationships, servant leadership, and the power of coffee to punch above my weight building systems that work, teams that engage, and vision that lasts.Onward and upward,Ben
